Exterior Painting

What type of exterior do you have on your home?
Is the condition of the finish good, fair or poor? Are there any holes, divots or damages that need filling or replacing? How's the underlining of the house? Does that need replacing? Those are just a few of the questions that need to be answered prior to us power washing inspecting and prepping the house before the paint work begins.

The last thing we want to have happen is we paint the house and then two weeks later, a chunk of the house falls off and then we have to come out again to fix the problem, and then that problem is the root of a much much bigger problem. Hiring a professional for exterior house painting can save you time, money, and headaches.

QUICK TIPS
8 simple steps to painting the exterior of your home:

1. Pressure wash exterior of your home. Removing dust and dirt build up will allow the paint to dry and stay true to the original color. Working your way from top to bottom of house in a smooth, controlled manner, overlapping each stroke by 8 inches will create a smooth and even finish.

2. Repair Damaged surfaces by applying epoxy filler to cracks or holes using a spackle knife. Once dry, lightly sand using medium-grit sanding block.

3. Once exterior is dry, walk around perimeter of house taking note of any loose or chipped paint. Place drop cloths along ground, then remove chipped and loose paint using paint scraper or medium-grit sanding block.

4. Fill any gaps between house and trim around doors and windows using exterior caulk and caulk gun. If house has mixed materials such as siding and brick, add caulk along surface where different materials meet.

5. Prime any stains by examining exterior for any visible wood knots. Apply one coat of stain-blocking primer to area using paintbrush.

6. Cover and protect your lights, windows and doors with plastic sheeting and painters or frog tape. This is a tedious task but will be worth it once the paint has dried.

7. Paint the exterior loading flat or eggshell exterior paint color into paint sprayer. Apply one or two coats of flat or eggshell exterior paint to entire house. Be sure to work your way from top to bottom in a smooth, controlled manner, overlapping each stroke by 8 inches. If you are painting a fresh surface for the first time, Primer is not needed. If you are painting over an existing paint, always start with a coat of primer to ensure proper coverage.

8. Removing plastic sheeting from doors, windows and lighting fixtures. Painting the doors and trim always add two coats of exterior semigloss paint color to woodwork and doors using paintbrush. Remove drop cloths and always double check for dropped tools or debris in the area.
